WhatsApp’s upcoming features

WhatsApp is working on functionality that will allow its users to hide the status updates from specific people from the contact list
So far, WhatsApp has been spotted with dark mode enabled in a few selected menus including Chats List, Calls, Contact Profiles and Group Settings and Status

World’s most downloaded messaging platform with over a billion users WhatsApp is constantly bringing updates to keep its audience engaged. During the start of this year, the instant-messenger brought two new features to its final stable build this year—biometric authentication for iPhone devices, that lets you secure your chats with your fingerprints or face data, and WhatsApp group calling shortcut that lets you initiate group voice and video calls by tapping a button. In April, it gave all its users the ability to choose who can add your groups.

WhatsApp is now working on some more features to make your life easier. These features are currently in the beta phase, so if you wish to try them out you will have to enroll as a beta tester. You can do that by clicking on this link and then re-installing the application via the Play Store. Here are some of the features that are currently available in beta that might be made available to the final build in the coming days.

Hide Muted Status


WhatsApp is working on functionality that will allow its users to hide the status updates from specific people from the contact list. Users would be able to see a “Hide” button on top of the Muted Status Update section. If users wish to unmute someone, they can click the “Hide” option again to restore the previous settings and then it will “show” the status with the rest of the statuses.

Frequently Forwarded

With this feature, users will be able to see how many times has a particular message been forwarded. This information is available for sent messages only because users can navigate into Message Info only for messages they sent.

A message is said to be ‘frequently forwarded’ when it has been forwarded more than 4 times. Currently, WhatsApp has limited the forwards to a maximum of five in India.


Dark Mode

WhatsApp has been working on a dark mode for quite a few months now. So far, WhatsApp has been spotted with dark mode enabled in a few selected menus including Chats List, Calls, Contact Profiles and Group Settings and Status.

WhatsApp is apparently also working on an app-wide dark mode option and sharing of WhatsApp status to Facebook stories.

The Night Mode doesn’t make the background of the app completely black, however. It is a very dark shade of grey, which means it cannot act as a battery saving option for AMOLED screens. AMOLED displays work more efficiently when using apps with black backgrounds as the individual pixels shut down whenever they are instructed to display a black color.
